IDPs in Kassab suffer from reduced food rations

KUTUM (9 Mar.) - Displaced persons in Kassab camp in Kutum (North Darfur) suffered from a food shortage after a reduction in the food rations allocated for them. Sabri Mahmoud Hussein, an IDP from Kassab told Radio Dabanga that living conditions in the camp have worsened and the sharp increase of food stock prices is greatly concerning the IDPs.

Porters in Nyala file a suit against trade union

NYALA (9 Mar.) – Porters of the Nyala market have filed a suit against the trade union claiming that since 2007 it collected money from them illegally. A porter told Radio Dabanga that their trade union used to collect 7 pounds a day in addition to annual membership fees of 64 pounds.

SAF: ‘UNAMID loss of weapons in ambush is dangerous’

KHARTOUM (9 Mar.) – The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) considered the loss of arms and munitions in the UNAMID ambush as destabilizing to the security situation in the Jebel Marra area. In a press conference yesterday, the spokesperson Colonel Khalid al Sawarmi of the SAF did not clearly accuse the UNAMID of supplying the rebels with arms and equipment. (more...)

Misseriya chief from West Darfur dies in Khartoum

KHARTOUM (9 Mar.) – A tribal chief of the Misseriya, Abdallah al Zanussi al Habo, died in Khartoum two days ago. He was transferred to Khartoum after being injured in the armed clashes in Khor Ramla. He was leading a mediation team between the Misseriya and Nuwayba. (more...)

Commissioner of Niertete denies 15 killed in Khor Ramla, West Darfur

NIERTETE (9 Mar.) – Jalal Abu Basher, commissioner of Niertete denied that 15 people where killed in Khor Ramla two days ago. Abu Basher told Radio Dabanga that there is no Nuwayba chief whose name is Adam Nawar Ali who was quoted by Radio Dabanga. The source called Adam Nawar Ali had said that 15 persons where killed. Someone is using a false name, according to Abu Basher, which can cause confusion.

Darfuris celebrate international women’s day

KOLONGA (9 Mar.) – Refugees from Kolonga and Farchana refugee camps in eastern Chad celebrated yesterday international women's day with the participation of NGOs working at the camps. Zahra Ishag, a refugee in Kolonga camp said the celebration embodies the determination to achieve most of the ambitions regarding work and education. (more...)

Twelve injured taken to Zalingei hospital

ZALINGEI (9 Mar.) – Twelve injured individuals were transferred to Zalingei hospital in West Darfur from Khor Ramla. Eyewitness Abdulrasul Adam told Radio Dabanga from Zalingei that three were seriously injured and they were transferred to Khartoum for further treatment. He added that hundreds of individuals are roaming without shelter. There is property looting, carried out by armed groups on land cruiser vehicles.

Darfurian refugees urge international community to help civilians east Jebel Marra

GAGA (9 Mar.) – Women refugees in Gaga refugee camp urged the international community to intervene and help the affected civilians east of Jebal Marra. They endured the fighting between the government and the Sudan Liberation Movement of Abdul Wahid. A refugee told Radio Dabanga that NGO and UN agencies should give top priority to relieve civilians in the area.
